I just got a 1986 Bronco II 2.9. The guy I bought it from had replaced the heater core. I'm noticing an antifreeze smell when the heater is on or the outside vent is on. Any ideas what might be causing this? I can't see any leaks in side, and the antifreeze level stays the same.
If there are no indications of a leak, I'd suspect that he spilled some antifreeze inside the heater core housing that still needs to evaporate out of there.
Clearly you'll want to keep an eye on it over time. I don't know how thoroughly you checked for leaks. If you haven't already, you might consider putting a pressure tester on it (can be borrowed from Autozone, if you are in the states) and be sure it isn't leaking.
