1977 - 1979 F150, and F250 bodies
Hey guys got a couple of questions, the first of which is, is that a 77 f250 and a f150 sure do look similiar when it comes to the body panel size and overall look of the trucks other than size and weights of the drive trains. The same goes for the newer 78-79's same question? I looked on the forums what i've found so far now is differences in weight and as far as I know now the only difference is the 1/2, 3/4,and 1 ton brought by the axles. Enlighten me please on wether the sheet metal and paneling of these trucks is different asside from bedsize options like long beds short beds.
Thanks,
Jason

As you know. The 77 F-series trucks had the round headlights, and the two piece insert grill, while the 78-79 F-series trucks had the square headlights with the one piece insert grill. There is no difference between the 73-79 1/2 and 3/4 body parts. It's all a bolt on deal.
As for the drivetrain, the 1/2 ton trucks usually had the Ford 9" in the rear, and a Dana 44 in the front, while the 3/4 trucks had a Dana 60 in the rear, and a Dana 44 HD in the front. Both could have either a NP 203 or NP 205 transfer case.
I am not an expert on this stuff, but I've heard some of the 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive trucks had different frame widths, I'm not sure if this is correct though.
I'm not 100% sure that all my info is correct, so if I'm wrong forgive me. Someone will come around to correct me.

Drivers side inner front fenders can be different to fit around different models steering boxes. Core supports can be different depending on year, motor, options. There are 2 different bolt paterns for bed floors. The front bumper bolts to brackets, not to the frame hornes on your high boy. Hoods have a crumple zone under them after '77. I'm sure there could be more I can't think of now.

Asside from the usefull information above in the last two posts on the specifics of body panels, I was wondering also about the main appearence of the body between a F250 and a F150 as far as size 78-79."when you look at a 1978-79 f250 will it look bigger than a F150" I assumed that the bodies were the same size just rebadged depending on the 1/2, 3/4 axles?
Thanks,
Jason

1973-1976 have exposed gas tank fillers, with round filler caps, that are flush with the bed. Exceptions are of course the Highboys, which have a blank, like the 1977, and the aux tank filler in the front is different, it protudes from the bed side and uses a different cap to the rear.
