Question ECU quandary for 89 F250

My 1989 F-250 may need an ECU but the sticker is missing on the current one. Ford is absolutely of no help trying to determine what the correct ECU belongs in this truck, and various internet ECU providers and parts recyclers show up anywhere from 7 to at least 25 ECU part numbers that could apply. I thought Ford could look up this info by VIN, but apparently that is not the case. The info I have is 1989 Ford F-250, 5.8L V8, manual trans, VIN 2FTHF26H6KCA57535. Can it possibly be that no information exists within Ford anywhere to look up which ECU part belongs in this truck? What option do I have now that does not involve me getting disgusted enough to junk the vehicle?

All you need is an ecu for a 5.8 truck with a manual or C6 tranny.. neither of which are controlled by the computer.

ECU quandary for 89 F250

Thanks, KOEO codes are as follows: 637,654,621,622,629,626,624; KOEC produces 637,624,634. All of these codes pertain to features of an electronically controlled automatic transmission. Truck runs and drives, but has low power output. Since it appears to be a computer designed for an automatic trans, I suspect the ECU keeps the fuel and timing curves set to IDLE because the damn thing doesn't know it's in gear. I know I could look around for a manual one, but I still get annoyed that Ford can't tell me what should be in there. It's pathetic.

ECU quandary for 89 F250

I forgot to add that the truck just came into the family, so I don't know what it's history is, or how long it was run this way.

I haven't seen subford post in a while, (hope all is well) isn't this one of them times he'd suggest using the emissions calibration sticker to find the correct computer?
