I will be getting an 08 f250. Diesel is not an option. Would I be crazy to get the 5.4 or should i get the v10. Wasnt sure if fuel economy was close to the same. Both trucks have the 5spd auto 3.73 gears 4x4. thanks
Go V10 you would not regret it. In a superduty you want some thing that has the power to move large loads. Plus the superduty is no light weight.
This is not to say the 5.4 can move the superduty or loads but its on a few dollars more After 30k whats a few more bones LOL
I was fooling around with the "Build Quote" thing on Fords site. I don't think you can get 3:73s with the TS trans/V10. Maybe with the 6spd/V10 though. With the larger wheels/tires Ford has been putting on their trucks, I shure wouldn't want 3:73s. I wouldn't even offer 3:73s in gassers anymore if I was Ford.
The only difference is payload, so if you want to haul/tow heavy, either (F250/F350) will do the same thing, unless you get a dually. Well, I guess if you're talking 5th wheel, pin weight could be an issue, or if you have a slide in camper.
yeah thought about my post afterward. The 5.4 has 3.73. . .the 6.8 has 4.10s. The ls 3.73 is optional on the 5.4, but standard 4.10ls on the 6.8, so the price difference with a couple other option(securilock system, upfotter switches)is only like $400. I usually have a light foot. I drove the 5.4 and it was OKAY, and didnt consider the 6.8 cuz of mileage, but did a little research and saw they werent that far off. the deal ill get is unreal(zplan plus rebates plus my trade in.) im psyched, never thought i could get a SD for that price! thanks to everyone
Especially if you're getting some sort of pricing, the V10 costs almost nothing. $600 is the "retail" cost of the option...and who pays MSRP (retail)? So, yeah, it's the best value/priced option Ford offers.
Congratulations on your new truck! An F250 with the 6.8L V10 is a great, hard working truck. Best bang for the buck in the truck market as far as I'm concerned
I am very happy with my 08 F350 V-10. I tow my offroad truck, camper and other stuff with no problems. Always had diesel trucks before but cost a fortune to fix any little problem on them and the new ones get about the same mileage. I have a friend with a 01 V-10 with 248,000 miles with just replacing the water pump. He also has an 04 V-10 with 172,000 miles with no problems. Both trucks are lifted and still no problems. I think you will be very happy with your new truck.
