I have a 2005 5.4L, and when I start it the morning I hear something grind on the passenger side under the hood. The grind happens (1 second) when the heater cuts in, if I have the dial in the off position and then turn it on a couple of minutes later it grinds as soon as I turn the dial to defrost. I can't repeat the noise after the vehicle is warm. Any suggestions??
I explained the noise to a Friend of mine who works at the local Ford dealership and he thinks that it is the AC compressor clutch when it cuts in (I only described the noise for him, he didn't hear it) He claims that it is common for it to make this noise and says that sometimes it will be worse depending on how long the truck has sat for. Has anyone else experienced this or heard anything about this being a common problem?
I have something similar on my 07 King Ranch. I usually leave the temperature the "Auto" mode so I'll have to pay more attention to what is causing it.
