Hi from Centerville, TX. I'm on my 3rd Ford truck. 1st was a 95 f 150 that I still have. It survived a concrete barricade in 97 with severe frame damage and then a dome light fire in 03. I always repaired it and kept going. Still runs with 260,000 miles. However a head gasket is leaking. My wife drives our 02 f150 that untill recently pulled our 33 foot fifth wheel trailer several times a year. And Now I am trying to sell my vette to pay for my new 06 f250 Lariat crew long bed FX-4. A major upgrade. I have always considered myself a chevy fan but I have used and abused my Ford trucks for so long I dont see myself ever buy any other brand of truck besides ford.

First started looking at this forum a couple of month's ago to help me with a problem with a 1991 f-250 and solved the problem with this forum's help, Thanks. We are now thinking modifying our small fleet (1972 GMC 2500 Custom, 1991 F-250 XLT Lariat, 2002 Tacoma TRD, 2006 Chevy Duramax) by getting rid of a couple of these and purchasing a used (22,000 miles) 2011 F-350 Lariat with the Scorpion engine. I'm a little nervous about this new engine and related technology and have been and will be searching this forum for more info. I just thought I would throw this out (and introduce myself). I know it's important to do a lot of searches in these forums before asking a lot of dumb questions so that is what I will do but if someone wants to offer up some advice in the mean time that would be great.
I actually love my Duramax/Allison and would like another one but with this much money involved I think I owe it to myself to look at Chevy/GMC, Ford and Dodge. for our next Diesel. We pull trailers (several types and weights) and hope to travel more in the future. We live in North Central Wyoming and travel the Rocky Mountain West. We welcome any and all advice and ideas.

Hi, and 2002 F250 questions
Hi All, I'm a new user. Just bought an 2002 F250 Crew 4x4 Lariat shortbox w/7.3L diesel. Really liking the truck. Former owners really looked after it. I used to have a 1994 F150. Pictures of both trucks in my albums. I have some questions for more experienced ~2002 F250 owners:
1.) Tires. The truck has factory-installed LT265/75 R16s that are getting old. I like BF Goodrich All-terrains but I'm trying to decide on size. I've seen similar trucks with slightly wider (and taller) 285/75 R16s that look good. By my calculations these would be 4% taller, so I'm wondering if that will have any negative effects, other than my odometer being off by 4%. Any suggestions? Any F250/F350 R16 rim drivers with alternative tires?
2.) Locking hubs. Previous owner never touched them and they were mostly on 'Auto' (i.e. counter clockwise), and not 'Lock' (full clockwise). The manual says to leave them on Auto. Can anyone explain why the truck has the manual locking hubs option? When would I use this?
3.) Cap. I'm not sure I like it. Darkens the interior and makes it feel a bit like a van. What do you think?
4.) Front end clunk. There is a bit of a clunk when the front tires go over a bump. Previous owner said it is likely the front ball joints that need replacing. Any experience with this?
Thanks for any info!
Dave.

Im new here to. You could do a search on your questions or start a new thread. Tires you will find everyone has there favorites. I do think a differnt size will mess up your speedo, but that can be fixed. Im sure someone here will give you info on that. I just keep to the stock size. Better economy and tire cost. One thing I can tell you that I have learned with my diesel is dont miss a rotation. I take it a step further and check the wear on the backs and will rotate them early so they all wear the same. I bought a set of Nokian tires the end of last year and have 30,000 miles on them and the dealer just measured them at 50%. They are by far my favorite tire so far. I've also had BF's, Goodyear, General, and Kumho. For the most part I liked them all except the Kumho. They had good traction on ice but wore really fast. And the truck didn't track very well at all.
I dont like a cap at all. You are right it makes it feel just like a van. I bought a nice tool box to go behind the cab for mine.
The clunk is probably ball joints but there is a couple of other things it could be. You'll have to jack it up and see if there is play. Dont buy cheap ball joints. When I did mine I somehow ended up with lower quality and ended up doing them in a year. Go with ford or equal. Some even have a lifetime warrenty. Thats what I got. I had one go bad a couple years after that and the parts guy said it's apart just replace them all. No charge. I did the labor though.
I don't know much about the auto locking hubs. I have manuals, and I'm happy with them, they work when I want them too. My buddy has the autos and he hated them so much he put manuals on. We are in the north so we need them to work when needed. He does snow plowing with his, which is the same year as yours. My under standing of it is if your in 4wheel and going down the road with the hubs in auto you really in 2wheel. If the rears happen to slip or speed up faster than the front the front hubs engage.

Insurance: if you're stuck or your auto hubs fail, you will have to flip over to locked. Autos can momentarily engage and disengage when you're in a stuck situation.
