I have owned a number of Fords throughout my lifetime. I contribute a large portion of my advanced mechanical aptitude to owning and maintaining my Fords. My current project is a recently purchased 2003, F350 with 350,000 miles. It was a retired railroad service vehicle and was purchased for a little of nothing. The vehicle seemed well maintained with a replaced engine and transmission, but I'm gradually refining the quirks out of it.

07F150 Transmission Bucking

Hi, everyone. I'm Jimmy. I'm the proud owner of an 07 F150 four door crew Cab 4x4 5.5'' bed truck.
I'm puzzled about the overdrive bucking in and out of gear when going from level to slight incline.

Greetings from Germany

Hello From Germany,
keep in mind English is not my native Language, so sometimes it sounds a bit strange. After just reading here as a casual guest, it is now time join.
2 Month ago i bought a 1951 F1, here it is called a stalled Rebuild (but a lot of work is already done) . It is my second Classic car and the first with some real work to do. I'm 50 and consider myself a advanced beginner/newbie. Main work is the engine rebuild, usual stuff and rust prevention. Later some small Modifications, but want to keep it quite Stock. It is a 8BA with Stock 4Speed spur gear Trans, stock suspension, breaks, Steering etc. When running and DMV approved, I want to go for 12V conversion and Dual Reservoir Brake system, later a more Highway Friendly Axle ratio. My goal is to keep much of the Work truck appearance as Possible.
Will post some Pictures later, and questions too, obviously. Oliver

I'm puzzled about the overdrive bucking in and out of gear when going from level to slight incline. It seems to stop when I take the O/D off, and I used to think it wasn't happening when in 'cruise control' mode, but it is now. It seems to be getting worse. Is this a design issue? Are there any recalls or service bulletins to address this problem. I don't want it to take out or lose the transmission, but I don't want to get 'ripped' either. What is it? What causes it? How do I permanently eliminate for sure the first time?
I've seen all the threads about fluid levels, filter shavings, battery start cranking amps, spark plugs, etc., and I don't think that's the issue. It feels like the overdrive is just trying to kick in, or won't stay in, or won't shift out to higher gear properly. Who has fixed this completely? I've seen dozens of threads on this, and have talked to dozens of people who have had it happen, and some live with it, some don't use O/D at all, and one bought a new transmission. I can't afford that. What's going on?

Hey All,

I just picked up a new to me 2015 F350 Platinum. I am by no means new to Ford's and really like this truck. It has a lot of miles but has been taken care of really well by the original owner. Might be looking to do some deletes and programming to really set this beast free.

Newbie

Purchased an '08 250 King Ranch edition, w/6.4L, 5R110 transmission (which I just recently rebuilt) about a yr ago and I am still trying to understand all that is with a diesel. Seems to be a fine vehicle, just has a few bugs to work out as any used vehicle will have. I finally joined so I could possibly tap into some experience/knowledge to hopefully figure out some of the quirks with my truck. This will ultimately become my sons fulltime vehicle, so I want to make sure it is completely road worthy. Thanks, JD

Well, from my experience and from a lot of threads from many other owners, I can guess that your truck has a Triton engine. Our old company 2006 F-150 pickup and my recently purchased 2003 F-350 both had identical symptoms. Strangely, my solution does not make much sense until you realize how much the automatic transmission solenoid shift functions are dependent upon the coil-on-plug (COP) spark efficiency. Water, oil, and coolant can get loaded in the COP holes and short out the fire to the spark plugs. The poor spark may not be detected by your senses, but the transmission shift signals can detect the misfire and play havoc on your transmission shifting patterns. I would recommend checking out your COP connections. Make sure you apply some silicone grease around the inside perimeter of the rubber boots after you either clean or replace them. Be careful when blowing compressed air into the holes to dry out the holes and remove the debris, the crap will unexpectedly fly up in your face. Good luck.

Hello All!

I am new to this forum, just bought a 1995 F250 to handle truck duties. Planned uses: basic homeowner uses, towing Jeep to trails, towing Camaro to track. Info on my truck: 460, Auto trans, 4.10 LSD, Supercab, 8' bed, 148k miles, kind of beat up. I will call it 'Big Ugly'. I hope to find info on this forum to increase mileage (lol, I know), tow capability/comfort, and reliability.

First Super Duty

Just bought a 2009 F250 XL FX4 with 132375 miles. Kind of rough. Tires on order and had to buy jack and will still need to buy jack tool kit. Runs rough but haven't had a day off to look into it. Has the common problem when trying to fuel it. Hope tomorrow to be able to spend some time getting to know it. Gas mileage showing was 12.2 mpg when I bought it. Drove it home for four hour trip and mileage was up to 12.5. When I clear up whatever is causing the P0300 code hopefully the mpg will improve. Don't know which rear axle ratio yet. I've got the day off tomorrow so that is one of things I'll look at. The few times that it cleared up and ran well on the trip home it was a pleasure to drive. I look forward to getting it right.

Howdy!

Hello. Site newb here, but no stranger to Ford, trucks, or F-series. I'm buying my 5th Ford tomorrow - 2018 F250 Lariat and now need to sell my 2014 F150 pictured here (sigh). Anyway, I'm no stranger to forums either, so just wanted to play along and check in. I'll get to posting here soon enough. Cheers!
