2000 F-150 stuck in 4x4
I had to put my truck in 4x4 yesturday, When I tried to put it back in 2 wheel it wouldnt work. Its auto locking hubs, light was on 4x4 low range. It was definitively in 4x4.
I have done some research here is what iv tried.
Put the truck in reverse I went back atleast 200 feet.
I jacked up the truck and tryed to put it back in 2 wheel.
I disconnected the battery put it in Neutral rollthe front tires backwards. The transfer case shaft didnt move just goes back a forth a little.
I tapped on the solenoid on the transfer case. I reconnected the battery turned it over, It still did the clicking sounds in the dash repeatedly about 5 clicks or so. The lights are now off I took it for a test run It has a winding sound like low range. but also i put it in reverse it seems very stiff, I did not what to go that fast. But the turns dont seem to be binding the truck any.
I am worried the hubs are still locked? Or the transfer case is still engaged? I dont know much about 4x4. we replaced the transfer case a few years back It has been noisy when puting it in 4x4 I figured it was normal. not sure really.
Is there a way to manually unlock the hubs?

Well I fixed it, It was the motor on the transfer case. I took it off and was able to turn the transfer case back to 2H. It had the engravings 2H 4H 4L. Apparently Theres no locking hubs its all in the front differential with the axles. The solenoid on the right had good suction the one on the left had none.
Tapping the motor on the transfer case made the 4x4 and low range light come on and off.
Just thought id post how I fixed it. May help someone in the future.
