TSL Radial, Trxus mudder, or the Trxus STS??

I am going to put one of the above three tires on my truck. I will drive it quite a bit on the street and a little bit in mud. Which tire would be best for driving on streets but also good in mud?

The all-terrain tire is not going to do near as good in the mud, but will probably get more mileage.

Both the TSL Radial and TRXUS M/T are good off-road, from what I have seen, but the TRXUS M/T will wear better on the pavement and it is also alot quieter on road. If you are really set on a TSL type tire, you can't go wrong with either.

TSL Radial, Trxus mudder, or the Trxus STS??

I've got the Trxus Mud on my F250. They look awesome, drive well, and have lasted a while. You couldn't pay me to put the STS on any of my vehicles, I just don't like it.
The will not be much of a difference in the Trxus Mud or the TSL radial, at least in your application. The TSL radial will probably work slightly better in the mud, and last a bit less in mileage.

My Trxus have a shade under 15000 miles on them, and still have about 9/32" tread. I CAN NOT kill these things. I want to move on to the Swamper LTBs in a taller tire, but first I have to wear the Trxus out! Make sure whatever tire you get, rotate them regularly!! This simple task(or not so simple with 8 lug wheels) will help even out treadwear and make the tires last longer.

The Trxus are radial construction, but they STILL flat spot a bit when parked. In the morning, I usually have to drive about a mile until I can't feel the thump anymore. Not too big a problem. And people are always commenting on how aggressive the Trxus looks, with me responding that they pull through the mud aggressively also!

TSL Radial, Trxus mudder, or the Trxus STS??

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 19-Dec-02 AT 07:51 PM (EST)]why dont you like the STS? what size trxus mudders you running? I have a 95 f350. I am just kind of curious because I want to put the biggest tires I can without lifting it. I dont mind shimming the bumper. I have the same wheels you have but I think I might go to some american racing rims.

My Trxus are 255 85 r16. They stand about 32" tall when mounted on my stock 16x7 rim. With a 350 you can probably go to 35"s. I have looked and looked at MY truck, and I can only go to a 34" tall tire without cutting the bumper. I don't like the look of a front bumper spaced more than an inch on our style trucks.
The LTB comes in a 34x10.50 size, and since I like a tall, narrow tire, I'm going to try them next. Just have to wear out these Trxus. How about a burnout contest?!

As for the STS.... I just don't like them. Doesn't look like there are any large voids between tread blocks, and it sort of reminds me of a severely feathered tire tread. But that's just me. I prefer (and need) a meatier mud style tire.

Hey knobby , you`ll like the LTB`s. I`ve got a buddy that has them on his Yota and they are pretty aggresive!! Only drawback is that 34" is the tallest they make right now.

`82 F-250 Custom** 4x4 ** 351W ** 39.5--15x16.5** SS- TSL`s ** 6" Lift ** Granny 4-speed**** If you can`t run with the BIG DOGS , stay on the porch!!!

Ever thought about the BFG mud terrain? I mention it because you mentioned driving on the street a lot. They are pretty good in the mud but also do really well on the street. The only thing is that you need to make sure you get the new version, and make sure any opinions you get about them are about the new version. I talked to someone who complained and I figured out that they had the old version which was more like an all terrain with bigger *****. The new version is much better, never heard anyone complain. Just chipping in.

Of course, I've got to chime in about those BFGs!! I still say go with the TRXUS MUDs over the BFG muds, new style or old. The only thing that changed between the new and old BFG is that the 'new' style has a stepped lug and softer compound.

As I have stated in the mud tire post a ways back, the TRXUS are better mud tires, and pretty comparable in road performance with the BFGs.
If you are going for attention grabbing tires, the TRXUS Muds would be a better bet over the BFGs. I get asked about mine about three times a week. Not a soul ever asked about the BFG mud terrains, because everybody is bored with them!(I'm only poking fun, MustangGT)

Then again, if the choice was between the TRXUS STS and the BFG Muds, then I'd go with the BFG tires! I can't stand the STS for some reason. Maybe I'm allergic to them!

The new BFGs have much bigger/better side lugs on the sidewall and the tread is a little different. The contact patch on the road surface is larger. If you look at the imprint of the old and new style, theres more rubber on the ground = better traction. The new tires are much better than the old. I would say the BFGs are better on the street then the TRXUS, depends on what the man values more. I've never had a different set of mud tires than the BFGs.

Oh, and the new BFG has the rim protector, if you look at the edge of my rims the tire sticks out just a little over the rim so that if you hit a rock or curb it hits the rubber instead of the rim. Also, the new BFGs are a little quieter on the street over the older version.

Why would you want a QUIETER tire?! I know, not everybody needs to hear that lug rumble as they cruise down the road. As another jab towards the BFG, more rubber on the road also means less space between the lugs, decreasing mud perfomance. However, having had the older set of BFGs, the bigger contact area is bound to help on the road. I used to break the back end loose ALL the time in the rain while running those BFGs. So much so that I wouldn't let my wife drive the truck anymore, it just wasn't safe. (Haven't had that problem with my TRXUS MUDS!)
I guess I ought to stop with the BFG thing, 'cause the post is about the Swampers.....It's just so much fun!
