Radio on off

This is silly one, but annoying...

I have a 96 EXP Sport, with the changer, and the cassette radio...

the unit has the push on off switch in the volume ****, which is all well and good, except that I can't get the switch to always "catch" so that it stays in the OFF (in) position.

can I just replace/fix that switch? or do I need to swap the whole radio?

Thanks

I have a 97, with the same problem (since 80). The on/off is controlled by a ramp on the switch which opens and closes leaf contacts. The contacts need to be adjusted by bending the leaf so in the off position they are open.

It hasn't been important enough for me to do the deed, I just turn the volume **** down.

Good luck.

Hi Aqua!

do you know if you have to pull the whole unit out to get to it, (ie tear apart the unit from the sides, or back, etc) or can you get at it from just pulling the ****?

I would just replace it with a decent aftermarket, but the changer works fine, and the wife likes it... plus, it's nice on longer trips with 6 hours of music at a time to pick from...

I guess it's too much to hope for some other head unit that would control this changer? that would be asking too much I bet, even though I know the changer is made by Clairion for Ford...

Yes you have to pull the head unit out and remove the top plate to access the switch.

Thanks, if I ever have 20 mins to kill, I'll look at it - do you then have to pull the actual switch to bend the retaining clips back, or how does that work?

My feeling is, if I'm going to pull the switch, I might as well replace it with a new one, but not sure how hard that would be - I can solder, but wouldn't want to unless I had to.

Thanks
