The FE engine family for trucks mostly is 352, 360, 390 has a unique bell pattern and will not swap engine to tranny with other Ford engine families. You can swap both and be OK.
oh, wut do you want to do with it? if yoyu want fun you could get a 460 with a 4-5 spd, chang out the tranny cross member and engine mounts and bang your spinning tires, this is the route im goin, except a 6 spd instead, if you want something a lil more economical and still want pull put a 351w with a 4 spd and your golden, there are ENDLESS things you can throw in there, good luck let us know, pics too, we like the picture books here
I would love to just leave the original stuff in there but being a JR. in High School it ain't the best first truck with gas just now coming down to $2.60 in my area it is not going to be easy
Now im not trying to be a jerk or discourage you but hey man its a truck it dont matter what engine is in there its going to suck gas just some engines will be better than others on gas better to get a little car and the truck as fun project summer cruiser or something but thats me

thats just speaking it how it is, if you want good mpg's your looking at alot of work, either convert to a lil deisel or put a strait six in it with a 4 or 5 spd, higher gears(???i think????) but these trucks are not for someone looking for great mpgs
