How do I get the outside power trailer tow mirrors off of my 1999 F350?? do I really have to remove the door panels?? I just want to paint the stalks where the paint is flaking off, Thanks!!
Thanks for the link showing how to remove the door panel-thats great!! are there more nuts/bolts that must be removed from inside the door (with the panel removed) to be able to remove the mirror?? I have taken 2 nuts off from under the rubber-plugged holes, and 1 smaller nut that was inside the sail panel but the mirror is still tight.....there is something inside the center plugged hole that I first thought was anouther nut, but its something else & I can't quite figure out what it is???? THANKS!!
There are 5 nuts total, 1 gray and 4 gold. 4 plugs need to be removed. Under the smaller center plug is what held the mirror while on the assembly line until mirror was fully installed.
I guess I didn't remember correctly. That does sound right now. Been a long time since I pulled mine off. Thanks Robin for putting it right.
Barry,
It was fresh in my mind because I just went outside and pulled all the plugs and noticed the 5th nut up high. Had I done this a month ago I wouldn't be sure.
I have cleaned my glasses and gone and looked at BOTH SIDES again and I can only see 3 rubber plugs on my '99.
Like I said before I have removed the 2 nuts from under the upper and lower plugs, and removed the sail panel and removed the smaller gray nut there.
I have not removed my door panel yet, nor have I tried to pry or pursuade my mirror off yet because I feel that I should unplug the mirrors wireing so when it does come loose I can just pull it completely off the door.
Is there anouther rubber plug that is exposed when I remove the door panel??
THANKS!!
THANKS!!!! This is what I needed!!! there are 2 more nuts behind 2 more rubber plugs behind the tape on stuff behind the sail panel!! PERFECT!! and this also has a very clear description and pictures on removing the door panel as well!!!!

Just don't drop those gold nuts... don't ask me how much of a pain it is to fish them out of the door.
