"Y" pipe change in an '03 excursion v10

I've heard very little about changing out the original Y pipe to an aftermarket one, can anyone enlighten me as to the advantages of this, as I am looking to boost the hp of the v10 and dont want to hinder mileage on the other hand. Have been looking at a ram air hood and cold air intake to help out in these areas.I do tow a small amount yearly, (enclosed 2 place bike trailer), any other add ons or advice is a great help.nunomad

I think that banks makes one. and some guy named stan. But i bought mine off ebay for 80 dollars and it made a big difference IMO. The stock one is junk i dont know who designed it but they should be shot. Try searching it has been talked about quite a bit just not recently. The only problem with it is you might run into exhaust flutter. there is a sound clip of it in one of the threads the Y pipes are talked about.

Very little?!? There TONS of threads about it! Are you able to search (some new users can't I think)? If you can just search Y-pipe and you'll be reading for hours!

I can't tell you much about aftermarket Y's but I had mine cut out and just let the shop clean the y and make a smooth y out of it. Worst thing I ever did. I was running a Flowmaster and could not stand the sound. It sounded like a hot rice burner. And it would reverb through the cab to the point you could not hear the radio. After another after market muffler I change to a regular muffler to accomidate the sound. It was tollerable then but it made no difference in the way it ran or gas mileage. Just my two cents worth.

Mine was a 2000 F250.

Research the hood and "cold air" mods before you spend money on them. If any real world improvement, it will be so so small that it is unlikely to ever pay back. DON"T ever believe the hyper-exagerated marketing hype on them. The stock intake is very, very good and adequate for stock engines.
Spending the same amount on high quality paper filters and changing them on a regular basis would be a better investment.
