91 460 vs 96 460

<TABLE width="100%" border=0 itxtvisited="1"><TBODY itxtvisited="1"><TR itxtvisited="1"><TD vAlign=top itxtvisited="1">Hey guys...new to the site. I also posted this in the 87-96 forum...but figured the more exposure, the more answers I can get. I have a few Fords, and most recently the bottom end went out in my 96 460. It has the E4OD. My question is, a buddy of mine has a 91 460 out of a wrecked rig, will this be a direct swap into my '96? I have no issues doing the swap myself, just can't remember when Ford put the E4OD behind these 460's instead of the C6. Also if it is bolted to an earlier E4OD, I have read that those earlier trannies had some issues. Will there be any problems for me? Will the computer/tranny still be funtional? Like I said, I am competent and can do the swap, I just don't know timeline of production, and I don't know the specifics of the 91 era engine (usually stick with carb'd vehicles, the '96 was my first EFI). Also, if the the 91 460 will work for me, is there anything I can swap from the top end of the '96 that will improve the '91? Please let me know any and all problems there are or that I may encounter. Thanks for any and all help, tips advice.

NO EXPERT HERE.

- I believe the 96 heads are better heads vs. 91 versions, so I would keep the 96 heads if you have a choice and the money and time to swap them. Of course it would likely be a good idea to have them checked out and it would great to have them worked over a little while your at it, but I'm chasing rabbits.

-My '90 has a E4OD, so I would presume that the 91 vs. 96 engines would be a direct swap.
