pre powerstroke turbo diesel
ok i just bought a 1994 f250 with the turbo diesel, its direct injected, but not the powerstroke.. is there anything particular i should watch for on the truck?? its a 5 speed, and has about 199,000 miles on it, oh and the front end is a 1979 d60. one of my machanic buddys said something about a double clutch?? (i think thats what he said) i know my fare share about vehicles, but i dont know about a double clutch, any pointers?? thanks

Hi, are you sure it's not Indirect Injected ? That is the pre-powerstroke motor (6.9 and 7.3). Jump down to the pre-powestroke, Indirect Injection ( IDI ) 6.9 and 7.3 diesel forum.
'Good guys down there. I don't know anything about clutches, but someone there or in drivetrain will.
Good Luck.

ok if it direct injection it is a powerstroke. What your buddy is talking about is probably that someone switched the dual mass flywheel with a single mass one or replaced the dual mass flywheel with a dual mass flywheel. The single mass is better becuase you never need to mess with it again.
An easy way to tell is the IDI will have injection lines and a rotary pump visible, a psd will have the fuel filter right in the center of the engine, and has wires plugging into the valve cover.
Cavitation needs to be watched on the idi's
hope this helps

If your friend talked about double clutching, it might mean also that your'e gearbox is not synchronised, and that means a special technique to shift gears without "teethbrushing". ie an increadible sound of scratching metal from youre gearbox.
you can ask the öldtimers around if the will explane this technique to you, it's very much special to the earlier stickshift cars.

no... mine is an international turbo diesel. not called a powerstroke yet. there was a half year that they werent called a powerstroke. the motor says its a direct injected turbo diesel. but the truck is called a turbo diesel not a powerstroke. its all in the name... identical engine though exept the internationals wont cold start under 50 degrees
