Question Converting From a 2G to a 3G Alternator

Hi all, from what I have read the 3G alternator is a much better design then the older 2G style, I guess the 2G's have also been known to cause fires due to the two battery and stator connector aging. Well my 91 Ford has the 2G and I really do not like the funky two primary wire and stator connector. So I wonder if I could purchase a 3G alternator and install it on my truck. From what I can tell the only difference between the 2G and 3G mounting setup seems to be the alternator adjusting bracket for the 7.5 engine application? So what I would do is to purchase a new 3G alternator and regulator connector wire the regulator accordingly and make a new battery lead cable with a mega fuse. Is this correct or am I mistaken?

I guess I should have done a search first. Any how I thought I would point out that I have access to a 94 3.0 taurus thats at my shop that is getting parted out. I am wondering if I could use this alternator? Again my application will be on a 91 F-250 with the 7.5. Thanks in advance.

I used a Taurus 3g on my 89 5.0. Do a search and there are quite a few posts that will give directions and some have pictures. You probably have to alter the bracket a small amount to clear the 3g. It is all pretty straight forward.
