I have an 06 f350 SD srw diesel with stock 18" steel wheels and stock tires. I have aftermarket 18x10 rims from an 04 f250 SD 5.4 gasser I would like to put on the 06.
1. Will the rims fit?
2. What size bigger tire will fit with out changing the suspension?
I have a tailgate spreader I need to be able to lift ice melt into and as-is it is almost as high up as I want to lift those bags. As far as tread, I tow a trailer most of the time and plow snow when it snows so I would like a happy medium in terms of tread life (30K miles).
I dont think the 03 Rims will fit, they are to small to fit over the larger 05+ brakes. The pattern will be right but the offset and the inside clearances will be wrong. If I were you, just get new tires. I have BFG AT 285/65 * 18 and am very happy with them. You can also look at Nitto and Toyo who make a good all round tire. I went with the BFG because I need the true winter rating for some nasty roads in the winter. So far, looking good with lots of sumer pulling.
If they really are 18" diameter then the wheels will fit, but because of the smaller backspacing they will stick out of the wheel wells more than your stock wheels. If you are ok for this look go for it. You will probably end up wanting to add fender flares though to protect your paint (and you possibly might need them to be legal depending on your state laws).
Due to the width and backspace you'll most likely need a slight lift in the front to run something like a 325/60R18.
Since it's a F-350 the back is probably a good amount higher than the front anyway.
As for tires, I like the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor Pro Grades. I tow heavy, haul heavy and plow with them. Great tires, 34,000 miles on them right now and I should get over 50,000 before they are at 2/32" tread depth.
Most of my hauling is to the local dump and back and I have to pull out nails and screws and plug 'em now and again. I like the look of the BFG's but I LOVE the price of the Goodyear Wranglers. Several tire site consumers gave them some good reviews, not too many negatives. The BFG's seemed to be hit or miss, although the tread looks like it could handle some larger nails and screws and not need a plug.
So I checked the aftermarket rim out on the truck and brake spacing is fine but like Cartmanea said with some 325's my truck is going to look like a lunar rover for real.
Will some 305/65 R18 BFG's fit the 8 inch stock rims? The BFG site recommends 8.5 minimum rim width. Will they rub?
The 305s shouldn't rub, 8" might be a little narrow but it would probably be okay. Mickey Thompson has their MTZ in a 285/70/18 that would fit good but is only D rated.
