another 5r55w problem
02 explorer 4.0
delayed shifting in reverse i think this is just the soleniod problem
but it shifts hard in to 4 or 5 this is going on what my wife tells me its doing i can't get it to do it for me
its got amsoil fluid that i changed 12k ago
I'm 90% sure its full

IHdeiselfan 4.0 trans problem
I noticed you used Amsoil transmission fluid. I put that in the 2004 I own and used their Amsoil greases in both 2003 & 2004 4.0 sohc explorers we have. In the 2003 I now hear a chatter noise as my mechanic calls it in the transfer case of the transmission. Only at low speeds and when making turns do you hear it. In the 2004 it acts up after it's warm as it does not want to go into drive after parking for a little while after driving it 20 or more miles . My mechanic has told me to look for the same thing to happen with the 2004 as what the 2003 is doing. Did you use the amsoil grease in your 4.0 vehicle ? I was told to get rid of all of the synthetic fluid and greases and go with the ford recommendations.With amsoil, no additives were use, yet ford uses an additive with their greases. Who knows. What lube greases did you use ?
