Question help on 400 valve lash?

I have a 79 f250 that runs ok, but not at the same time. I likes to not rev out as fast as she should, the power is there but not, and it like to keep running after you shut the thing off. I have yet to pull my v-covers but I want to check my valve lash and cant find it on the web<(polish go figure)>. The EGR system is messed up aswell I think. I want to bypass the whole thing and run no emissions just dont know how. If anyone can help or steer me in a good direction let me know
TY
Jon

Sunds like it needs serious tunning, why dont you take it to an expert? engine shutting off with a delay means your timming could be off...

sounds like you timed it with the vacuum advance hooked up. my buddy did that in his jeep scrambler and it would keep running for a couple of seconds after the ignition was shut off.

might want to check that out.

nevermind, figured the wiring out, I had 6 bad wires so I put new ones on. put it to TDC and check my positions. my distributor was straight and my rotor was facing #8. I wasnt going to go to deep tonight but I turned until #1 and she runs 99% better with no load and rather than chugging for 30sec after I shut down it just does 1 little chug now.
