1999 f150 5.4 swap for a 2005 3v 5.4

Hey everyone the engine in my 1999 f150 is shot. I have a lead on a 2005 3v 5.4 cheap. Is this a straight forward swap. I assume the engine in my truck is the 2v model. What kind of issues will I run into trying to swap the old for the newer 2005 model.

any thoughts.

one thing you will have to overcome is the drive by wire that the new trucks use.

Different harness, sensors, pcm, mounts, on and on. I mean you can do anything with enough time, effort and money but I'm thinking WHY? Might be I'm just getting old and lazy but I'd put in a direct replacement.

I'll agree with the above. If you have to ask, don't attempt it. This isn't the carb/early EFI days.

I don't even know if the block will physically bolt into the same place as the 2V and if I had to guess I'd say probably not.

Okay that is exactly what I needed to know.

Does anyone know what years I can choose from. The truck is a 99 f250 light duty. Pretty much the same as the f150.

Would any 2v engine work. Any certain year better than the other. Im trying to find a low mileage engine that I can bolt directly in with little modifications. What year did they stop making the 2v engine.

This truck is used to pull my boat. Its not a toy so im not trying to make a big project out of it. However if certain years were better I would love to know

thanks

You should have the PI heads with an F250LD AKA F150 7700. That started in 99 and went until the end of 2V production in 2003. I think they used 03 engines in the 2004 F150 heritage models. (04 F150s with the 03 and earlier body style.

You should be able to use any engine from a 99-2003. I'd think that if you used a 99 or an engine close to a 99 that you'd be safer from slight model year variations, if there are any.

97 and 98 5.4s are pre PI heads and should be avoided for your application. The difference is 235HP to 260, IDK about torque differences.

Are you confused yet?

I think that 2003 was the year for the spark plug fix, but if you correctly tighten the plugs, it shouldn't be a problem.

I'd only be concerned with minor engine casting, electronics, and wiring differences with using a much later model engine. You'd have to find someone much more knowledgeable about minor differences than me to inform you though.

I've got an 02 5.4L and the strategy code is UEV0. It is setup to run 2v, 3v and 4v engines. You should look into seeing if a newer 2v will need the ECM it came with or if yours will be compatable. Still a lot easier than going 3v. SCT should be able to set you straight. Call and ask them.

does anyone know which engines to look at which have the PI heads. Or did all the 99-03 5.4 engines have the pi heads. I sure dont want to go back in HP. Ill be hauling roughly 6000 - 6500 lbs. So the more hp the better.

I'd look into a Navigator (5.4 4V) engine swap first.

It has more ultimate potential and more low rpm power in stock trim than the 5.4 3V anyway.

In fact, I might be doing the Navi swap in my 01 soon.

All F150 engines 99-03 are PI heads.

well I would consider it however im not looking for a major project. I have enough of those. Im looking for as quick and easy of a job as I can find....

I hear that the 4v engines would be a big pain in the rear to swap
