HELP!!! Truck rolls downhill on "Park"

Hi.
I have a 2000 Excursion and when I park on a hill and put it in "Park" the transmission clicks but it rolls downhill. I have to apply the parking brakes all the way down and even that doesn't stop it sometimes. This happens whether I park facing forward or backwards. Am I looking at a new/rebuilt transmission cost or can I make an adjustment?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I dont-but if you secure your truck from rolling-go under it and have someone shift the gear shifter and it will be the only thing on the trans that will be moving-it is a black cable that attaches to a white plastic piece with groves-that then goes to a metal lever on the side of the transmission-becareful dont get tread on your shirt!!!!!!!!!

No, it's not the linkage. There are two bolts that hold your shifter to the steering column, inside the truck. They are loose and causing your problem. Don't bother going under the truck, that's not where the problem lies.

Where exactly are the 2 bolts and how are they accessed and adjusted to correct the problem? Specifics would be greatly appreciated.

The shifter tube can be accessed byremoving the plastic shrouds (covers above and below the steering column. 4 screws found on bottom of the lower shroud. (4 holes, screws inside of holes. ) once the shrouds are off you can see the entire shift lever mechanism. Any problems should be easily seen. Dan.

This thread is the same issue. I had a loose shifter and it cured my problem.

I removed the screws from the plastic covers on the steering column. However, I have run into a problem. The lower part of the plastic cover cannot be removed because the steering wheel adjustment lever prevents it from coming off. Also, the top part of the plastic cover is being held by the ignition switch. What do I have to do to remove these plastic covers?? Remove the steering wheel adjustment lever AND the ignition switch??? If so, how is it done?? Thanks for all your help.

The tilt lever should just pull out. A screwdriver may be needed to push in a clip or detent.

Here's how you remove the key tumbler.

Key IN.
Turn to RUN, do not start.
Follow picture.

However, this picture shows the ignition still in. It also shows the top two bolts that may need to be tightened.
