Removal of Front Grill

Has anyone had any personal experience with removing the front grill on the 07+ Expeditions?

I'm in the process of replacing my front chome grill with a glossy black one.

I need to know of an easy way of releasing the tabs on the bottom. They seem pretty rigid and I'm afraid of snapping them.

Also I need to know how to remove the emblem as well.

thanks

I will more than likely have to remove my grill also, since there is no way to mount offroad long range lights on the front end without getting inside the grill to make some brackets or getting an ugly aftermarket and expensive light bar or bull bar. The exploded drawings in the website Ford Parts Online - Genuine Wholesale Ford Parts make removing the grill look pretty simple. Just lots of fasteners of different kinds. I wonder how come they can't all be the same?

Well there are rivets on the top that fasten to a brace that attaches to the vehicle and I'm not sure on how to deal with, also the bottom tabs are pretty secure.

No one has anny suggestions?

Well I went ahead and did it.

The tabs were flexible but took some "manipulating" (flat head screw driver) to get them out.

Also, there are metal rivets that attach the grill to a support brace. I ended up drilling them out and replacing them with removable plastic rivets(4).

I will try to post some pics.

I'm thinking about changing or painting mine, pictures would be nice, not to many people post pics. in this forum.

hjsimpson,

Any interest in selling your chrome grill? I've got an 07 limited, but would prefer to have the chrome grill.

Thanks,

Russell
