I have never run into this problem before, so needing little pro advice. I have an AOD that is giving me headaches. If you start it cold pulls hard no indications of slipping for about two miles and then she fades to nothing in seconds (all gears). Kill the engine and let it set for a few minutes and repeat, she runs like a champ same distance. I just bought this truck of a buddy to get him out of a bind. We changed the filter before I bought it, but here is the real deal, he finally admitted the other day he had put some tranny stop leak in a couple of weeks before because of a rear seal leak (what a tard). My thoughts are that there is something lodge in the valve body or something. A couple of years ago I had an E4OD giving me problems and had a tranny flush on some little machine and she never missed a lick after that. I hate to waste $150 on that little deal if it's not going to work. Just hoping you boys could put me on the right path. BH
This may not be much help but the only thing I know about the AOD is that the cable from the throttle linkage to the trans must be perfect and properly adjusted. If you have changed filter and fluid that is what I would check.
It sounds like the filter is clogging up, when the engine is shut off the fluid drains back and clears the filter just enough to allow fluid to flow again. Start the engine and the trans will work until the filter is clogged again.
I have never seen this happen with a AOD, I have on Nissan's and Toyota's and some KM series. So I will be shocked if its true, but your description of the problem is classic.
I would remove the pan and check filter, if it is in fact clogged then the trans has major problems, the filter is clogged with transmission pieces.
