Holy Bodyfiller

I can't believe it near perfect metal and for some reason he coated the whole fender with 1/4" of filler. He did a very nice job of shaping but why????

probably easier to shape and smoothen the filler than to try and fill small dents in the fender... dunno. i imagine there was a reason.

Thats quite abit yeah.

When i was yapping with ya on msn the other day I mentioned that I read a guy is supposed to put a thin layer of bodyfiller, to fill the very small dents and whatnot, but 1/4ish of an inch is ridiculous!

when i had my '83 i had talked to some guys about doing the body. what they're doing now with small dings and dents is using a really heavy polymer primer and giving it as many coats as necessary to fill the ding. they said it hardens better than bodyfill, grasps to the metal better, and it stays somewhat flexible.

Maybe the guy knew Boyd Coddington. Ever see the amount of body filler they put on cars? LOL

Im guessing back in the day it was either filler, or extensive metal work.

Guess which way this guy chose?

I have heard that to and have been thinking about doing that to the 78 to get all the dings out of the box and the 78. My other option is just to forget about it but, I'm not sure I can do that.

there was a saleon bondo at costco that week, me must of bought a drum full!!! just went through this with my front fenders, previous owner brazed patches onto the fenders and then coated the fender with 1/4 to 1/2 of fiberglass filler, pulled it off as it was never finished and was pealing off and wow! warp city! not worth fixing them!!

I love having a project sitting around waiting for extra time to be put into.

That primer sounds like pretty good stuff.
