What size of winch do I need for my '93 F250 supercab, longbox, 4x4?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-Apr-02 AT 09:18 PM (EST)]i would go with a 10,000lb. or above winch, that might be a little over kill but it would be worth it, i read somewhere that you need the weight of your vehicle then like multiply that by like 2 or 3, some number like that, anyway, thats what i would go with. im puttin the warn HS9500i on my truck.

 

The ideal winch is 1.5 times the loaded weight of the vehicle, gotta a 6000 lb vehicle, use a 9000 lb winch. You can never have TOO MUCH winch though, or a long enough cable in my experience.

 

1.5 is the min you want. And remember that the winch's capacity is deminished by each wrap of cable. it is the diameter of the spool which become wider and lessens the rotational gearing. I have used a Ramsey RE10000 and never had a problem.

(Used to have)205000 miles, Mass air 460 w/ performance heads and a E40d to 5spd conversion and Doug Thorleys. Old EFI 460 @10 MPG to the 12 V @ 23.2 MPG @ 75 MPH and loving it.
My other toy is a '69 CJ-5 354 Hemi 4 spd 4.88's 32x12.50 MThompsons w/ power-lok 44 rear.
