Catalyst Monitor

Catalyst Monitor
I have a 1998 F 150 with a 4.6 and I had a check engine light with a EVAP groos leak. Got problem fixed it was fuel filler neck that was bad. Got code erased and need to get truck inspected. I have been watching monitors and it has not checked catalyst monitor yet and it has been about 160 miles and it hasn't checked it. On the code reader it has seven monitors and all are on solid except catalyst. Didnt know if anyone new if this was normal or if there was any particular drive cycle that would speed it up. Just curious. Any help would be appriciated.

Sometimes, it takes days, even weeks for the correct driving conditions to be present to run certain monitors.
Depending on what state you are in and what their specific requirements are, a PCM-based emissions test may still pass with a monitor incomplete. Check with your local testing authority online or by phone. Most states have their specifications posted online.
In the meantime, keep the fuel tank between 1/4 and 3/4 and allow it to cold-soak for at least eight hours between driving runs.
If needed, you can always run the OBDII Drive Cycle to force the tests to execute. Procedure is in the service manual.
