I like it. I would get one for doing light duty work, and running around with, use the super duty when I needed to tow more.

Ive always liked the higher geared rear ends in a truck too.

Probably not the setup I'd prefer, as the trailer I tow is on the high end of 1/2 ton capacity, but I'm too cheap to get an SD...

But, I think it's real impressive

Those gears are no good for towing 7500lbs and the truck will be a slug. Grasping at straws to sell trucks IMO. If they were that concerned about mpgs they shouldn't have dropped the manual in the F-150.

Your prob right but it's like when i am driving about and i see trucks with no tow bar setup and think to my self why on earth have you got a truck if you don't tow anything. The trucks are always mint condition and most of the people prob just use them to cruise around in meaning that you prob wouldn't mind the SFE.

The 6 speed auto should be geared low enough to use the 3.15 gear to tow 7500lbs.

Have you driven one yet? Hard to tell until it comes out. The new 6-speed will help tremendously. I know you have been reading most of the posts in here...the manual did NOT sell enough to keep it...not saying it wouldn't now but thats why it is gone! Not too smart business wise to keep lame ducks in the lineup...God knows Ford is criticized enough as it is...

The gearing of the 6 spd will more than compensate for 3.15 gears. The 6 has a 4.17:1 1st compared to the 4's 2.84.

4 spd
1 - 2.84
2 - 1.55
3 - 1.00
4 - .70
R - 2.32

6 spd
1 - 4.17
2 - 2.34
3 - 1.52
4 - 1.14
5 - .87
6 - .69
R - 3.40

The combined ratios of the 6 spd with 3.15's has lower final gearing on it's first 4 gears than the 4 gears of the 4 spd with 4.10's.

4 spd
1 - 11.64
2 - 6.35
3 - 4.10
4 - 2.87
R - 9.51

6 spd
1 - 13.14
2 - 7.37
3 - 4.80
4 - 3.59
5 - 2.74
6 - 2.17
R - 10.71

Lots of people buy trucks for the use of the bed, and to tow, but tow alot less then 7500.

Just cause the truck is rated to tow a max of "X" amount, doesnt meant it has to always tow that amount to make it worthwhile to have that truck

If your one of those kinda guys that uses a truck pretty lightly like i do, with most of the time my heaviest tow being my boat (an 08 fourwinns 19.5 foot, not a heavy load) a pickup like this would be great.

Side note: i chose a SD over a half ton for those occasional times I do tow more then a 150 could handle.
Plus im a diesel guy

I know how modulars tow and their prefered rpm range. The 6spd will help from 1-4 but dual overdrives will kill it during towing with the 3:15s. The trans will be knocking in and out of OD on any little hill on the highway to stay up to speed when loaded down. Many whine the F-150 doesn't have enough power but then welcome a gearset that kills performance.

If someone wants good mpg, an F-150 or any truck isn't where its at. If you want it, pay to feed it.

I don't think the SFE is for anyone who plans to tow regularly, but for someone that needs a full size for the cargo space and occasionally tows, it is an excellent option. I would hope that the tranny has an OD off for at least the 2nd OD when towing, if it does, then it will be just fine. Notice that even in 5th, you are still at lower gearing than the OD of the 4spd.

the bed sticker is very cheesy...

And you would think they would use 17" wheels for even less rolling resistance/weight?

Sorry sir, I strongly disagree. I have a 5 speed and it's no better than anything else on gas. This is my third and last manual shift truck. Never again.

Ford is making some fantastic inroads in the pick-up segment. This is just yet another choice Ford has given us. No one offers more choices on trucks than FMC. Now we can say that Ford offers fuel sipping cruisers and gas guzzling work trucks.

If this truck doesn't shut up all the MPG whiners, then you simply can't become satisfied by a truck. You'll need to call Dr. Phil.

Tim
