9 inch rear end converted to posi

Race or street? Race---Spool. Street---locker. I like the strength of both. And the driveability of the locker is not that bad. just have to watch you foot every once and a while. the good thing about the 9" is that you can make gear and carrier changes with out resetting the gears. All you have to do is swap out the 3rd members. So its not like you are locked into what you choose. You can always find a buyer for either. SO....there you go!

'86 Ford F-150 4x4 w/ a spooled mono Dana 44/a spooled 9" running 38" TSL. 300ci, Clifford Intake and Headders, .05" Milled Head with SBC valves, port work
500 CFM Edelbrock, Clif. 290* cam with Rhoads lifters, .040" TRW Pist w/ Moly rings.
Future plans: A draw through Twin(or big single) Turbo setup (to help with the upper end)

300 Inline turbo plans!?

You want better traction...get a locker...otherwise...just stick with what you have. It will work fine. There you go!

I am the current caretaker of my grand dad's 77 F-150 that he ordered new for the farm optioned with the venerable 300 "Big Six" which 'onallcylinders.com' named the 4th best engine ever bolted into a pickup, and which I have come to respect and enjoy immensely in its untouched original form in spite of the low HP numbers and unimpressive fuel economy. I feel privileged to have such a gem in my care and wouldn't change a thing aside from perhaps a Weber 2bbl adapted to the original intake only for the sake of getting my money's worth from the fuel we use and not in the interest of considerable power gains. All that to tell you that I have a reasonable level of experience successfully fabricating and installing/tuning N/A to turbocharged applications, mainly classic Volvo wagons. Even though I have no interest in molesting the heirloom entrusted to me I am prone to wistful daydreaming in regard to the profound potential of a properly laid out TurboBigSix and am in the earlu stages of fabricating my manifold and finding a solid candidate to shore up internally and boost. Since you suggested the idea 14 years ago do you have any experiences or advice you could share as I set off on my quest?

Thanks!
Jim Lee

welcome to FTE.
since he has not logged on in close to 3 years, i really doubt you are going to get an answer.
you would have better chances getting answers to your questions on doing forced induction up in the six cylinder section of the engine forums. there are still a few guys up there playing with turbos and blowers .

Dan never did turbo his truck, and parted ways with it a few years back. He does play with turbos, just not on gas engines.
I also planned on turboing my 300, but, I too never got a round tuit. There is currently a good build in the 73-79 forum that vindicates what I had planned and makes me yearn for another good six cylinder truck to build, but I have not seen under the hood of a 300 powered truck since 07...
