Screeching Starter Motor

My Stater motor makes a loud screeching noise when trying to start. (Not every time, about once or twice a month but it seems to be getting more frequent now and it's getting really annoying.)

Does anyone know what's involved to fix this problem? Is it a bad stater? or is the flex-plate/fly-wheel damaged?

Could be a worn or sticking pinion gear in the starter motor or the flywheel might be warped. If the noise occurs only periodically the pinion gear in the starter motor might need lubricated. Had this happen on a Chevy S-10 pickup where the pinion gear was sticking intermittenly. A few drops of Marvel Mystery Oil took care of it. Might give this a try and see if it helps.
