'02 F-250 SD 5.4L gas with 6.5" lift and 37" tires
hey guys,
I went to four wheel parts yesterday and this is the setup they're giving me to be installed next week (6.5" procomp lift, 17" wheels, 37X12.5 tires).
I'm just looking for input: is this setup too big for a non-deisel engine? What kind of problems could I have? Would I be better off with a 4" lift and 35" tires?
Just in case it matters, it's an extended cab with an 8 foot bed.

What gears are in the truck? If they are 3.73, you will need to go up to at least a 4.30 to keep your power and preserve the transmission.
I have a 4" lift with 34.8" tires, the truck used to "hunt" for the right gear while towing with my stock 3.73s installed and I have the V10. The towing and mileage issues will be further increased due to the 5.4L in yours.
BTW: Don't let the crap-talk about pro-comp lifts scare you. I've had my Pro-comp lift in my truck since 2000 and have had not one problem with it since I installed it. Some will say the shocks and springs are made in china, they aren't. My shocks have "made in usa" stamped into them and the white painted part numbers on my springs have "made in usa" right under the part number.

I have almost the same exact configuration (except I have V10). A few things you might want to consider is the drive-line shudder (carrier bearing spacer required to bring the driveline angles down some), regearing, and the addition of an adjustable panhard bar to compensate for the spring height.

I also bought their steering stab relocation kit (PN# RF25005), both are SUPER easy installs and well worth the $$.

they actually sold me a carrier drop (i think that's what you're talking about) and a dual steering stabalizer to go with the whole set up
They had mentioned changing around my gears when i said i wanted an 8" lift at first, but they said the 6.5" would be fine with no other modifications. I'm not sure what gears I have now, they're stock so i'm assuming 3.73.
I guess my concern is that they're messing around with me selling me all this stuff and then I have to go back to them to fix everything that goes wrong afterwards.

I've been running 3.73's on my rig since day one. It's somewhat of a dog (even with the v10) so you might want to add regearing into the budget if you're getting 37's.

Why not drive the truck with the 3.73's and see if you can deal with it for a while until you can regear? I guarantee if you pass up the bigger lift, you'll regret it, it's a sickness... I passed up the 8" lift on mine because anything bigger required drive shaft lengthening, crossover steering, ext brake lines, etc. The list was too much $$ so I "settled" with the 6.5"...

This is pretty much the same set up as mine, except for I have a Superlift kit....I'm also assuming I have 3.73's and my only complaint is the performance....The truck feels very sluggish at times....I very rarely experience any tranny "hunting", but I have pretty low miles....Also, I wish I knew how fast I'm really going....When I bought the truck, it came with the Hypertech Power Programmer but it doesn't allow for tire size to be changed on the 5.4L....I'm saving up for the Superchips Programmer....And now, probably going to save up for 4.10's or 4.30's....

Well, I got it done on Friday. Here are some pics. I'm verry happy with it, and the 3.73's seem to run fine with the 37 inch tires. I might change my mind though when I actually have to tow something. Now all I need to do is get rid of that ugly top! Any ideas on how to sell it? I've tried ebay, craigslist, and forums like this one with no luck.
