drive train part is loose, please help me!

I have a 1998 Mazda b2500, with a 1 piece rear drive shaft (2 wheel drive). On the front end of the drive shaft, right next to the transfer case (manual transmission), there is a steel protective tube that slides over the (universal?) joint to protect it. Mine came loose, it looks as though there is some sort of gasket that holds this in place. Please advise if I can just bang this back on, as is seems to be pressure fit, or if there is another means to fix this problem. When I am driving it slides forward off of the drive shaft and onto the end of the transfer case. Any help is greatly appreciated. ps-this piece is a thick steel tube that is about 4 inches long and about 5-6 inches in diameter. If I am able to scrape off the existing gasket material, could someone recommend a product that I might be able to reapply so that it does not slip off again. Thanks

Thanks!!

Not sure on this one.
Is there any chance for you to post a photo of the part(s) in question? You say 2wd but refer to a tranfercase, is this truck definately 2wd? It almost sound like it may be a balancer of some sort.
