I thought the 2003 didn't have gem modules, and all the fuses are fine.

Any thoughts on this one.

I have a Ford Expedition 2000 Eddie Bauer edition. It’s always run great with the exception of the automatic locks always acting weird. A couple of weeks ago, it was raining and my wife decided to take it to work. The radio flickered on and off, and the dashboard got dim. Then the radio turned off and would not turn back on. She left the car at home in fear of getting stuck. The next day I tried the car, the radio was on, and wouldn’t turn off, without the key in the ignition, thus draining the battery. I jumped the car and got things going again, but then the windshield wipers, windows and radio now don’t work. After I shut the car down and tried to start it up again, the car won’t go out of park with my foot on the brake.

I have checked all the fuses and I am getting power to the Assy block. I am sure it’s a relay switch or something, since I did ask the Ford mechanic about it, and he knew what I was talking about and smiled when I mentioned the car won’t engage out of park. Is this an easy fix, or do I have to grin and bear it and take it to the Ford dealer???

Any help, comments or ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Mike

now that x08 mentioned his issues, I seem to recall a post a while back, how they dealt with same issue, and the gem module had water inside from a leak

exactly right. YOur windshield is leaking onto the GEM and causing it to short and corrode. YOu can fix it yourself, although the GEM is a pain to get out. It's on the back of the fusebox under the dash.

Blood85,

Did you ever get resolution to this? I am having the same issue with a 2004 Quad Cab. The interior lights dont work when you open any door and the radio remains on no matter which door is opened. I also have issue with the steering wheel controls for the radio. I replaced the door switch in the drivers door but no help. This has been going on for over a year. Everything is original on the truck. Hopefully you know of something I can try.

Hopefully I do. I replaced the windsheild. When it would rain, water was leaking pass the seal above the driver. It would travel down the support with the hand grip and down the driver side panel by your feet to the carpet. A sign to look for is to see if the parking brake was rust on it. The fuse box is there with the GEM module mounted to it. I pulled the fuse box out(about an hour) and tryed to dry it out. Sprayed WD40 and used compressed air to dry it out. Reinstalled with no luck. Ford wanted 250 dollars for a new fuse box. Thought it was to expensive to trouble shoot with parts so I took the Expy to Ford dealer and had them look at it. Diag., fuse box and labor was 830.00 dollars. Should have gone with my gut feeling and replaced the fuse box myself. Would have saved me 500 dollars. Not sure if this same problem you are having but there seems to a lot of post with same issues with the windsheild. Good Luck.

FYI It cost me 267.00 to have the windsheild replaced. With the old windsheild off, I could see where the water was leaking thru the seal and down the support to the dash.
