You don't want to drive in 4wd on pavement though! Lots of people just lock the hubs and drive around for the day and keep everything lubricated but they don't put it 4wd.
Primary rig is Green Thunder:
95' F-150 XLT 4x4, 302, 5 spd, MSD 6A, Flowmaster Exhaust, Sunroof, Clear corners w/ Diamond headlights, CD player with 2 10" subs and some 32" BFG Muds .
Thats it for now, saving for a stang. Check out my Gallery for a look-see.

well your front axle is just as lubed as the rear it spins the fluid. so there is no problem there unless you have leaks it it good to put in 4 wheel once in a while to make sure all is good that for the sake of the transfer case witch still runs fluid so if you dont have leaks you should be good the reason is so the that the shift levers or solinods dont freeze

With the front drive shaft not spinning and no pressure on the splines they tend to wear going over bumps in the road and RR tracks, grease regularly and allow to rotate occasionally. Also true for the passenger side drive axel on an IFS. My front drive shaft was so worn out when I got the truck that it was like a liquorish whip, had to have the spline ends on the shaft replaced.

I wouldnt know I have had my hubs locked for the last five years and in four wheel 3 out seven days a week.
But yes Its a great idea ,better yet take it some where and use that 4 wheel drive . A old dirt road is great and less stressfull that locked hubs on pavement and gives the front end a change to really get warm and lubed up good. I fyou can find a place use the low range too.
