FE Torque Converter Question-Measurement Please

Im hoping someone in this forum can help me out. Ive got a 71 429 that Im putting in my 78 F-250 4x4 and the crank pilot has a 1.25" hole. There is what I would call a primary pilot hole that is about 1.85" where the flexplate mounts. It seems like most 429/460/400's etc.. have a 1.375 pilot hole and that is what my original TC matches (my 429 didnt come with a TC and I dont know much of the history of it). Someone from another forum mentioned I could use a TC from an FE motor and it will fit my 1.85" hole. Could someone who has one laying around measure the FE TC snout diameter and distance from the end of the snout to the case?

I'm assuming we're talking about the snout on the flexplate side of the converter based on the post. I measured a C6 converter best we could at this hour lol snout OD is 1.8765 and the snout has a nose that is .61 deep before it hits a ridge about .020 thicker that would be the stop face for the crank. Hope that helps

Perfect. Thats exactly what I was looking for. I wont be able to measure mine till I get home tonight but it looks like this is what I want. My 1.375" TC snouts are atleast 1.5" long so Im thinking at .61" long the FE should fit in my first pilot hole. Ive got a 73 429 that Ive been using for parts but that TC doesnt fit my 71 429. It appears in the early years of the 429/460 Ford kept the FE crank pilot hole dimensions? Man, theres always something odd that comes up on these trucks. Thanks a bunch!
