Unhappy 1997 Explorer Lowbeam Headlights

I have a 97 AWD 5.0 v8 explorer, the headlights started off with just the driverside headlight did not work, but then my Dad "fixed it temporaroly" to get it passed inspection not sure exactly what he did but it worked for about a month then all of my lowbeam lights went out including fog lights both my high beams still work. we have changed to headlight on/offswith, High/low switch. the message center in the console says my low beam light are working just fine. Please help.

There is a "lamp out module" that controls headlight messages in message center. Current passes through it on the way to the headlights. Google "explorer lamp out module". If it is faulty, the headlights won't work. The module is in the console beneath the message center. You can take it out and open up to see if some of the soldered conntacts have broken. If so, you might be able to resolder them. If not, replace module about $70 from ford.
