Pic of My New '78 Inside (PLEASE HELP!!!!)
Hi everyone,
Its great to be a part of this community. This is my first classic, and I been dreamin about it for awhile. Its finally mine!!! My "new" '78 F-100 shorty 6cyl.
Anyway, I am in the process of having it shipped from its old home in Loiusiana to its new home here in Ohio, and I was wondering if anyone happened to know the overall width and weight of the truck so I can pass that info along to my prospective shipper. I know the WB (117?). Please help, I'm really looking forward to getting my baby here!!!
Once I get it, I'll be back for more advice. I plan on putting all of my extra money into her, so stay tuned!
Thanks!!!

Nice truck!! It looks to be very solid! What are your plans for it? You should build up that straight 6. I built up mine and it's a whole different animal!
Sorry I don't have any shorties, all my trucks are much longer than that one. Somebody will chime in with your question.
Welcome to FTE!!

Looks like a nice truck. I've got the same basic truck but with the 302. I'll measure the width when I get home and repost if you haven't already got an answer. Not sure of the weight. You'll have a blast tinkering with it. The good thing is pretty much anything you need for it is readily available. Go ahead and request some catalogs from some of the FTE sponsors and others.

Thanks fellas, it is a nice truck and the only rust is on the tailgate! I couldnt pass it up @ $1200, although its probably gonna cost half that to get it up here.
Yes Kao, I've heard fantastic things abouth the staight 6. Would you have any suggestions on what I should begin with? Its got 3 on the tree, so I am going to see how accustomed I can get to that, athough the previous owner suggested replacing it with an automatic. I want to paint it the original color, put a nice set of rims and tires on it, replace the tailgate, and build up and replace all the gaskets on the engine (which runs great BTW). I am super excited!!!

i love my three on the tree. if its difficult to put in gear, try adjusting the linkage or lubing it before replacing stuff. the straight six is an awsome motor. the first thing i plan on doing to mine is putting a new intake on (already have a new carb) and dual exaust. the split exaust manifolds from the EFI 300 six work better than the stock log manifold and are cheaper than headers. jst poke around the straight six section and you'll find alot of good info. nice truck, i have a 74 shorty thats sky blue

Inline 6's are fun motors to work on. I put a dual plane 4 barrel manifold, 4 barrel Edelbrock carb and headers with dual exhaust on mine. Also did an electric fan conversion. There are many things you can do to that motor and the 300 is very well renowned. It's got quite a bit of power and the truck zips around more quickly than a lot of stock V8's with just the modifications I made. Plus, you don't have the gas mileage of a V8.
