1974 Ford Cummins Crew cab

Even the tiny lip offered by a TIG would probably be enough for the clamps to get an extra grip on. On some of my pipes, I just put 6 little "ZAP"s around the edge and it worked just fine. Albeit, it was a MIG, but whatever.
That 3.8L looks nice - what kind of numbers did it put down, and at how much boost?

Never had the thing dynoed so don't know actual numbers but torque was +/- 325 ft./lb. and HP was 225 or so if I remember right. Did the swap about age 18 = 14 years ago...
Boost was about 8-10 lbs. Tore the truck apart to cage it before I really started tweaking on the motor & the thing never went full back together. It sits in the corner of my shop looking like this now. There's a 302 & a c6 in it currently.

Chase, dont let the wind fall out of your sails here. The one thing I noticed in researching my 67 crew build is the number of these that never get finished. Yours and the red 69 were two of the best Ive seen anywhere in internet land and the 69 fell out. Im depending on you for inspiration bud!

It'll get "finished" enough to drive. I really WANT to be focusing on this, but my alfa is so close I need to mess with it - which I did a bit more last night.
I did however stare at the crew & scratch my head a bit on Wed night. Figuring out radiator mount & hoses currently, as well as front brake line routing.

I messed with the beast a bit again last night.
I mocked up a fake tie rod to see if a 1.5" dia. tie rod was doable. It's close (read it does touch!) at full lock, so I think I'll make one and clearance the diff. cover if I have to.
I also looked a bit more at the way I want to run the brake lines on the thing. I again tested at full lock each way.
Next I talked with a buddy about my radiator mounting idea & he gave ma a better one, so I did some testing with that.
The same buddy said he hopefully would have some time today to cut the Alfa seat brackets I've been waiting for as well as the inner fender mounts I've been waiting for on this thing. Since he said he'd hopefully have some time I came back here & drew up a couple brackets for my brake lines & then the lower radiator bracket in cad & sent them off to him to see if he could cut them today as well. We'll see if he gets to them!
Once I get the lower radiator bracket set I can then get onto the hoses for the radiator & IC (wanting to order them at the same time) & also the radiator bracket.
Man I'm excited to really make some progress on this thing again! Too bad the trans is going out in my tacoma & it looks like I'll be spending a bunch of shop time coming up messing with that

If it's just slipping...you could try adding a quart of Type F fluid to it - it doesn't have the "slip-eze" additive that the dexron/mercon/+4/etc fluids have (if it's destined to be rebuilt anyways, it couldn't hurt to try)

So I got to the shop last night & my buddy hadn't cut the parts - damn...
Didn't get much done either as I had to leave early to run some parts down south & for the short time I was there another buddy stopped by& picked up some other parts.
No way. The supercab would get a 4bt WAAAAAAAY before the toyo. This truck is just a temporary deal until I get some other stuff driving. At that point this thing is OUT OF MY LIFE! Don't get me wrong, it's an ok little truck, but I want my beasts! Plus the mileage sucks for being a 4 banger, 4 speed. I could get the same out of the LS series motor I think I'm going to put in the supercab
It's a 5 speed with a very unhappy (read NOISY) bearing... I've been putting it off which is exactly what I shouldn't have done, but I hate spending $$ on a truck I don't care about. Unfortunately I do have to drive the thing daily right now
And yeah, it's the hard to find 4wd, 4 banger, ex-cab with a 5 speed. Special order truck I had to search a bit to find.

Do you still have the factory tie rod that came from it?? It has 2 bends in it to clear the diff...I know you want heavy duty tho...but that's why your custom one hits.

Got one sitting here Dave. Well - the tie rod off the '87 or so axle I gave Ed long ago. It's set up for inverted T steering. Problem is my knuckles are drilled for using heims on the tie rods already so with the stock TREs on that stock one it's no where near working.
And on the note of stock ones - with the dinky diameter of the stock ones they really didn't even need the bends. This thing wouldn't hit if I stuck with 1.25" dia. tube - which is bigger than the stock one already.
