A4LD transmission

A4LD transmission
I got a 86-88 Ranger and it's a V6 motor. I need a tranny. The A4LD that was in it was bad. I need to find another tranny-- are there any other vehicles that use the same tranny? I noticed Windstar w/the V6 4speed OD -- Will this fit???

I'm not real sure, but I think the Windstar is a front wheel drive. Aren't FWD trannys configured differently than ones used for RWD ?
I just looked at the Wife's Escape and it don't seem possible to use that for a RWD application.

No the Windstar is front wheel drive and its transmission is even worse than the one you have.
I would look at having your fixed.
These transmissions can have alot of problems, I have seen just about every part of this transmission fail in one way or another over the years. If you get a used one it has a high chance of having problems.
Your transmission could have been considered a good used one right before it failed.
If you must get a used one, it would be best to find one in a ranger and your year range and engine size. The manual lever can come in many different sizes and point ether up or down. The 3.0 has a different bell housing and governor.

I second that. Get your transmission fixed by a reputable shop. Off the shelf rebuilds are mostly junk, even from reputable brands. The good ones are expensive. You can have your old one rebuilt for less, the only penalty is downtime, which you are suffering from anyway till it gets fixed. Look to spend about $2000, depending one what is broken.

The have inexpensive parts upgrades that make the trans better, and have all the info you need.
Some use Explorer parts in an overhaul, but even then the trans still has it's weaknesses.
