I out 4x ed a toyota

I have a 78 RC,lwb 300 I6,3.73 Posi,2wd, NP435,on 31X7.5" tires.A friend wanted to go four wheeling in his 87 v6 5sp,EXt cab toy with 31" tires. And he asked if i would come in case he got S@#ck and I say sure i had 2 friends with me and he had 2 with him.first we went throuh a dry creek bed that lifted the right rear tire on the ground and he had to put it in 4xlo lock hubs and they said to me no way and I put it in granny and idealed up that and went up the sides of hills and things.I didn't even spin the tires once. How can a longer hievier 2wd truck out 4x a 4x4 toyota that le said had factory LS.

Thanks
Dusty

Your weight & wheelbase kept your tires on the ground, so you didn't need 4x or LS. Many people underestimate the off-road abilities of 2WD trucks, but it's always nice to know you have 4 when you need it.

I backed my f-150(reg cab, short box, 4x4, 300-6) up to it through it in granny low (i have an np435) and locked the t-case in low range and out he came! It was funny the chevy guys whent back mumbling something about stupid teenagers anf fords

I have the 4 speed in my truck too and I love it. Alot of times when I need to pull something I leave the hubs unlocked and put it in 4-low/ granny!! Talk about crawl. It gives you 2wd- double-low. I pulled a tractor out of a ditch like that. It was buried to the skid plate!! But I was pulling on cement too and had a lot of traction. Don`t even have to touch the gas. But sometimes that`s too slow!!

The best way to yank someone out of the mud is to use a wide stretchy yank strap, back up as far as you can, then mash the gas. You're going 15-20 mph by the time the strap tightens up. Its like a big rubber band and is easy on both trucks.

Remember that open toyota 4x4 is really a two wheel wonder just like any open 4 wheeler. As a matter of fact your truck with a tight LS is an open 4 wheeler in effect.

Here's my experience with those tow straps:

I've broken every single one of them i've ever used (including the 3" wide ones). Now I have an army ammo box bolted to the bed full of decent 5/16 chain, about 40 feet in 3 different sections. You do have to use your head with chains though because they are unforgiving on frames.

The most fun and easiest way to **** somebody off is to pull them out in 2wd. I did this once with my truck, I hauled a church van and a u-haul trailer out of the mud in 2wd, with no problems.

Don`t like chains!! Do like straps and I`ve never broke one. I really don`t know how you could break one unless it`s placed on a sharp edge or something. Not saying that it can`t be done-- just saying that I`d like to know how it happened. Straps are way safer than chains. Had a buddy of mine pulling a truck out with his Jeep Cherokee, the chain broke and busted his back window out and shattered his front window from the inside!! Made a believer out of me. Won`t use chains unless I have to!!

Well I have the 6" wide one rated at 80,000 lbs break strength. I recommend any serious mudder gets one. I'd be snapping 2" and 3" straps too.

I use chains, but you can't jerk chains. Chains have higher strength, but are more brittle than straps. Straps (& ropes) are dangerous because they store energy which is released violently when they break. Chains don't store nearly as much. Cables are probably the safest.

the last time i went fxing with my his nissan dug in the mudd and the water killed the ignition. i refuse to use chains simly because the are heavy and break to easy if you have a locking diff and the truck being pulled out has their brakes on. i used a 1/4 inch cable on each side to pull. when i pulled his truck out in 4 low granny his rear axle was left in the mudd. and yes it took all night to get to where he was stuck at and it noon the next day before i got his truck loose. it had semi dried in there and was hung in tree roots. so we went and got a trailer and by the time we got back his truck had sonk down again. when we got his loaded myne sunk down to. but i could get out and had the trailer with his truck on my b2 so i think ford makes a great 4X4.

chains are a lot better for pulling someone out as long as you have a powerfull rig doing the pulling and DO NOT yank the chain. i carry 2 20 foot 3-8 chain in my truck at all times along with a 3x30 foot strap and a 2x20 foot strap, i break straps like nothing when i am out wheelin it hard in the mud. you just have to use your brain when you use chains. as for out wheelin a toyota, heck yeah you can, you are in a ford.

well its just the fact i dont like chains myself. i prefer cable with rope. that way it the cable breaks the rope you wrap it in wont let it fly like crazy. ive broken severel large chains just my pulling. didnt yank on them just pulled the weld loose on them. dont know why my bumper didnt through all that i put it through though.
