I just bought an 84 f150 explorer, I know that the original 351w was replaced and I am pretty sure the mew engine is also 351w as it has the six valve cover bolts the thing is it seems to have a governor on it which i have been told is usually only found on larger truck engines. I was also told that it may be possible to switch from the current 2bbl carb to a 4bbl without changing the current manifold the base on the 2bbl is about the size of most 4bbl i have seen but I don't really know I do not have allot of experience with the older v8 engines. I would really like to know what this engine is and what it came out of just not sure how to go about finding out.
thank you for all the help I know im about to receive
6 valve cover bolts will not determine what engine it is measure the intake if your not sure ~9" across=302 ~11" across=351w. btw i dont think your going to gain anything by putting a 4bbl on a 2bbl manifold
Yeah I am pretty sure it's a 351, Just not sure how to find out other info about it such as age and what it might have come from.
It didn't really sound right to me that I could just throw a 4bbl on there without changing out the intake as well. the main reason I want to change it anyway is a the carb i have is pretty much shot and I really would like do do away with the hundred or so plastic vac lines I have running all aver the engine
