I got mine on jackstands soaking in MMO. I tried counting the teeth while everything is still rusted in there, but I'm not getting accurate enough to be sure. If I'm one tooth off on the pinion, I'll end up with either 3.9 or 3.7, so I've tried to take it all apart to be sure. (the stamped ratio is on the downside, where I can't see it)
I'll be making a puller for the axles this week at work. A word of advice, if your rear is gonna sit outside for several years, leave the cover on it.
While measuring mine this weekend, I found this; forgot it was there... I suspect most are long gone.
I wish I had a tag, but what I could gather using pointing tools for a visual aid, I count 11 pinion teeth, and 24 ring teeth from crossshaft end to end, so I assume 47. That gives me a 4.27 gear. So moving on to step 2.
Lol, Dick, you read my mind. I'll be posting on the IH site I frequent as well. We'll find a way to transfer a high gear into an old case on a junkyard basis, yet, lol.

Please don't make me go back in there - All that woods must do something to peoles heads.
So what I want to know is will one of those cool looking finned aluminum covers work on the Ford Truck dana rear? Most applications listed do not go back as far as our trucks. I sure do like the look of them.
They are, in fact, the same length and part number from left to right on the original axles. The axle shaft part number is the same for the Dana 41 and 44 from '48 all the way through '56.
This is where I got a lot of the info I have on the Dana 41/44 - I also talked to them and verified the info - I'm not questioning anybody just putting out a source
there is a phone number listed RANDYS Worldwide | Differentials, Rear End Gears, Axles, Lockers
i have a 1983.5 f350 and I need help figuring out what rear end I have can't find the stamps no tags missing ring and pinions for the rear can see a big 60 stamped on the front axle anyone able to help me out
Probably a sterling 10.25. If it is missing parts, you may be better off going to the salvage yard and pulling one from a 90s f250. Having limited slip and 3 inch brakes is beneficial. The code will tell you gear ratio, weight rating, and open drive or limited skip. The code is on the door tag.
