E4OD shift feel

I have a 1993 Ford Bronco. 5.0L E4OD. This is the first vehicle i have owned with an E4OD. The others have been C6's and AOD's.

My question is... How is the shift from 2nd to 3rd supposed to feel? On my Bronco (light acceleration)I can feel it shift from 2nd to 3rd....then a slight lag and is "shifts" again....which I assume is the torque converter locking. It feels a bit mushy when it does lock. Is this normal?

On the AOD's I have driven the 2nd to 3rd is much firmer. If I really give the E40D the gas it locks the converter at the 1st to second shift (i think).

Was just wondering if this is normal. The engine and trans have 253K miles on them. No problems yet....want to keep it that way. Thanks!

That is normal, unfortunately. Some of the early models work like that.

There are some converter delay devises out there you could try, I have used them before but its been awhile ago.

This was the only one that I could find, I know there are others.
