Well theres no turning back now you folks talked me into getting started.
Looks like someone used 351 motor mounts on this 460 - one hole lines up enough to get a bolt in. The was only 2 bolts holding this dude in!
I am not real fond of the method/equipment I used to lift the cab but its all I had.
Heres a couple of pics - hopefully more to come next week if I dont have to work late every day.
Now I need to think about how much I want to spend as far as suspension upgrades and things like that. I am considering not going all out right now and just seeing if I can get it back together with the new body.
Nice improv with the engine hoist. Have fun and dont rush. I did mine on a weeks vacation and didnt do everything I wanted. But it was definitly a learning experience.
I am wondering why the trans cross-member would not be bolted in properly. The bottom of it is bolted to them frame but the top of it doesnt reach where it looks like it ought to be bolted to. I put a jack under it and it got closer to lining up.
Hard to say, but it looks like he has maybe a 2x6 supporting the roof and the hoist is on that. Maybe with some 2x4's going crossways for more support.
I'm considering buying some plywood and 2x4's (or maybe 4x4's if needed) and large caster wheels to make a platform to put my cab on so I can move it around to work on it.
Do you think your cab (the old one) is strong enough to lay it on its back without damaging it (to paint the bottom)?
Also I havent gotten very far in the past week - Been swamped with work so hopefully this weekend will be productive. Just tracked my rust bullet and its still in Nevada grrr. Not going to be here until next tuesday.
