Can you reprogram the engine computer for better mileage?

Can you reprogram a 5.4/2V engine computer for better mileage?

Many folk desire to tune their engines for more power, etc. The 5.4 provides way more than enough base power and torque for my needs; Is it possible to re-tune it to get better mileage?

You can do both. My FIL's '02 F150 FX4 crewcab has a 5.4L 2V and a 4R70W auto. It got 13-14 mpg when cruising around at light throttle when he first got it. After he had it awhile I retuned it working on several things.
I worked on the shift and TCC lockup schedule, spark advance and fuel mixture, EGR function, knock sensor function, etc. It now has more power at moderate and WOT, and gets 18-21 mpg when cruising at light throttle.

I saw an increase in power and mileage when I had my 01 5.4L 4x4 when running the 93 octane setting on my Diablosport Predator. The increase in mileage was a much better trade off than the extra $.20 per gallon.

that is awesome, i'm in the same boat. i've got a 2001 supercab with 5.4L and the K&N FIPK and a 3" cat back to a flowmaster and a turndown. also have tonneau cover. i get about 15 mpg with a medium/light right foot. if you could point me in the direction of the product to buy and or the tuner to do the work to get me 20 mpg that would be amazing!
