Why can I take truck out of park without my foot on the brake?

the other day I noticed my truck will shift out of park without my foot being on the brake...

I was tossing a bunch of stuff in cab for a camping trip.. something hit the shifter and off my truck went..... dam near got run over..

I have a Scab Fx4 5.4l... shifter is on the center console...

what part is defective? or loose wire maybe?

I do alot of hard core 4wheeling.... may have busted something?

any advise on where to start would be great!

thanks

Have you tried it again? Maybe the truck wasn't fully in park. I wonder if you broke your parking pawl. Does the truck roll in park?? I would start checking the brake shift interlock to make sure everything is connected...

Sounds like the shift interlock is damaged. That is the part that keeps the shifter from coming out of park until the brake pedal is depressed. The only way that is serviced is w/ a new shifter assy. They are easy to put in if your mechanically inclined. Good luck.

The brake switch is probably bad. If you have cruise try it. If that doesn't work either then it is your brake switch. It is located on the brake peddle.

It's the shift interlock. Your cruise control has been acting up also hasn't it? The shift interlock is bleeding very low voltage to your pcm. I assume you have a console shift?
