18.3 miles per gallon

i had to double check the numbers. last week i filled my truck up at a Sam's (wal-mart) gas station with the regular 87 octane (only 10% ethanol)
so after 346.2 miles i go back to same station and same pump and fill it up again. it took 18.863 gallons to fill it up, so if i did my math correctly that should come out to 18.3mpg.
f150 extended cab 4speed auto 3.27rear, 4.6 v8 and has a camper top.

i wasn't running the ac much and mostly driving back roads and highways (not much above 60mph)
does this sound about right. it usually only gets about 16mpg

Are you sure you have 3.27 gears in the rear end?

I got 18 once. Thought I had screwed up but then I remembered that I had been driving it at 45 or slower and really watching the grades so it didn't downshift.

That's what I averaged in my 4.6L '98 model,and it had a 3.73 gear and a camper top.

I have a '03 Screw with the 5.4, 3.73 gears, and still stock Wrangler tires. I recently added the ScanGauge2 so I can see my mileage quite easily. Highway mileage at 65 has been running about 17-18mpg. And that's on E10 gas.

If i drop to 60mph, I get 18 pretty solid. Assuming it's not windy out.

I just got 18.8!! My best ever!!! & that was hauling a load of sawdust out of Kentucky & Across Jelico Mountain. Average speed 70 -75 with 87 Octane 10% Ethanol. Food City gas I do not know where they get their gas from but my truck likes it.

I just replaced the Old General tires that were on the truck when I got it & put on a new set of Michelin LTX M/S. I have yet to go thru a tank of fuel to see where my mileage goes but I have been driving a bit faster than normal with the new tires. Man It will hold a curve now!

Like others have said.. are you sure you have 3.27 gears? The only factory gear options were 3.08, 3.55, and 3.73s.

over the last 4 tanks I have averaged 19.6 over a 60/40 split of city and hwy driving. Thats being nice to it and keeping it at 65 or below. I was worried about gas when I first bought this truck but I have to say I am happy so far. Truck is a 03 SCrew, 4.6, 3:73's and stock size tires.
