1998 Expedition-Drivers Door Problems/Electrical
My 98 Expedition (147K miles) has had some issues with the elect door locks and window control unit on drivers door. Locks sometimes don't work, the door no longer activates the interior light or lights on alarm. I was living with it but now the actual inside door handle broke off last night. So, since i have to fix that, i might as well try to fix the electrical problem.
quesitions i have
1) pry the bottom and pull UP to get panel off, correct?
2) Get the new handle from dealer?
3) anyone else have these electrical demons? Is this something that can be repaired or is it a replacement?
Thanks upfront to anyone that can help. Been a good SUV and, though we no longer us it as a daily driver) it has always been ready to work when we needed it.
Peace, Love and Power Door Locks!

Your electrical problems could simply be a bad door lock switch and a stuck door jamb switch. The door jamb switch can usually be freed up by spraying WD-40 into the latch and opening and closing the door 10-20 times. If your door ajar light doesn't come on the dash when you open the door, then you can safely assume this door jamb switch is the problem.
My 97 Exp had the following INTERMITTENT problems.
Driver's window would stop and cycle occasionally when rolling up, when doing so, the dash warning lights would flash and the transmission would shift into overdrive if rolling.
Driver's window would occasionally not roll down. When this happened, the driver's door electric locks would not work as well (switch or FOB).
Driver's door speaker would quit working sometimes.
All the above problems were intermittent and could not be tracked down. I always suspected a floating ground, thinking common problem. The electrical problems started in 2005 at around 145,xxx miles on mine. Since we really didn't use the truck for trips, and mostly towing and trips to Lowes, I lived with it until I sold it when I bought my 2008 SD.
Good luck.
