Oversensitive Anti-Theft Alarm

07 Mariner Hybrid with about 12.5K miles. The anti-theft alarm has gone off 6-7 times over the past year and half. In each instance we were able to get a quick look at the vehicle (luckly) and did not see anyone around it or see any reason that the alarm should have gone off.

Granted, if we average one of these ever couple months it is not the end of the world, but if in the middle of the night.......

Anyone else experiencing this?

By the way, love the FTE site. A whole slew of helpful info on our 89 F-150 and 99 Ranger. Many thanks!

It sounds like either a hood alignment problem (there is a sensor there). Or a door is not getting closed tightly. If the interior lights are triggered when the system is armed it will set off the alarm. There is a sensor on the hood as well. The town cars were notorious for problems with the hood and truck sensors getting knocked out of place.

Resolution - Oversenstive Anti-Theft Alarm

Thanks pfogle for your response. It has turned out to be a door ajar sensor, much like you suspected.

The dealership accessed the computer and saw that 8 times in a row it was the left rear door setting off the alarm. Will get the vehicle back tomorrow, but suspect replacement of this sensor will do the trick.

Not sure if the Message Center would have allowed me to read this, or if the code they picked up requires special equipment? Since still under warranty, I did not put much effort into it.

Pretty cool they were able to tell what set it off.

I know on my '97 Cougar, the creaking exhaust, or the sun shining on the car making the glass expand, set off the alarm a few times.
