Sorry, MPG talk.... Let's compare

In the US do you use the Imperial gallon or the Gallon? I would like to add to this but I first have to verify the proper gallon, then convert the litres to gallons. I have a US truck here in Canada, so everything is in miles, except for our fuel pumps make it more difficult. I just spent 12 days on the road and have a ton of data to convert.

I just got an early '99 F350 w/a 3.7 rear, 4x4, ext cab, auto trans, 105,000 miles. I just did a 200 mile trip w/cruise control set at 55mph, (2 lane road) and averaged 21.1 mpg. The terrain was fairly flat, no wind, on a somewhat winding road. This was using the stock air cleaner, no fuel additive, and the fuel filter that came w/the rig. I've since upgraded to a 6.0 air cleaner and have changed out all filters and fluids. I'll be adding a crossover HP oil line shortly.

I have a F350 CC long bed with an 8in lift and 38s and I have been averaging around 15mpg since I got my DP and have been running it on the 80E setting. This is with 2/3 highway and 1/3 city driving. I could prolly get a little better mileage but I haven't been able to quit playin with the 140 tune every now and then yet.

Thanks Mark. My averages on my recent trip hauling a 7k trailer with a 6 inch lift and 35s was 10.13 MPG on a 1600 mile trip. I went from low altitude thru the rockies, to high elevation destinations, through the prairies, got a tail wind, fought a couple head winds and back through the rockies. Best mpg was 13.35 in the prairies with a suspected tail wind, and worst was 8.84 on a 91 mile trek up to a 4000 feet destination. Here is the gross part. It was about $0.52 per mile to drive this trip.

It's a struggle to get my truck into the 18mpg range empty 3.73 gears 295/75/16 tires even at 60mph and my neighbor has the exact same truck as me except his is totally stock and he struggles to get 14mpg. I don't know how some of you with 4x4s are gettin 20 plus mpg must be somethin wrong with my truck ha

My driving is mostly highway (although in SoCal traffic it's more like city) and my truck is bone stock except for my sig below. Add to the list all synthetic fluids, 166K on the odometer and stock sized 'E' rated tires at 62psi and I get 16-16.5 every tank (hand calculated of course). I stay under 2k (usually) on the tach and cruise at 65mph. With 3.73s that's good for 1800rpm. For some reason my truck loves to cruise at 1800rpm. Why don't they make a cruise control that works off of the tach instead of the speedo anyway?
Every now and again I just can't take another Honda coming up on my left side thinking that when the light goes green that they'll cut in front of my redneck limo to get on the freeway entrance that is only 300 feet in front of us. Sometimes they just need to learn that they should just get in line or learn to respect the fact that BIG truck doesn't always mean SLOW truck. Sometimes you just gotta teach those kids in their little unibodies to respect the frame! On those days it's a little closer to 16mpg. On my more even keeled days I get closer to 17mpg.

I save all of my receipts from fill ups and I just ran the totals since the first of May.
All mileage is hand calculated and my driving is about half highway and half in town.
Not towing but carrying tools and hauling lumber sometimes. Average for the last 3 1/2 months is 17.82 mpg.
I use Diesel Kleen every fill up. Noticed my mileage has increased since I started filling up in the
early morning.

Kwik, yes my mileage was similar to yours. we just went out this weekend and I was watching RPM's while towing. 6th gear no OD 2100 RPM at 55 MPH. 6th gear w/ od- 2100 RPM 65 MPH. 6-7% grades up and down hills still running 10 MPG + or -. thats with the 5ver behind us. By the way, we went to a place You and Kriss would love if you like hiking in Moab, and its only about 80 miles away. Picts to follow. Barney

And still saving up for that OD. Other expenses keep happening like doors for the house. The rear door of the house was dry rotting on the bottom and all the rest of the doors in the house were old and sagging.
Garage and one corner of the house was needing some rot repair as well.
Seattle is a VERY wet place and you have to keep that under control or be faced with 10x the expense later on.
Brother in law just started a new construction business so we hired him to do the work.

With the mods in my signature I average 14-15mpg. It doesn't matter whether I run the 80E tune or the 100hp tune and it doesn't matter if I run 65 or if I run 80 the mpg is still always between 14-15. I've done EVERYTHING I know to do aside from running 60mph in a 70mph interstate which WILL get you ran over.
