Pics of my '84 project
I finally got around to getting pictures of my '84 F150 uploaded and thought I'd share and see if any of ya'll have any good ideas or helpful hints to share. It's my dad's old truck and has been a good one for a long time. It's a stepside (obviously) with a 351W, 3 speed auto, 9 inch rear and 3.55's. Currently a set of fairly worn 33-12.50-15 Swampers hold it off the ground but they've seen better days. The truck has been sitting for 10-15 years but the motor was replaced just before it was parked and has very few miles on it. I'm planning on a paint job, 6 in. lift, 35-36 in. Swamper LBT's, spool in rear with 4.56's, diamondplate bed bottom, Bushwacker cut out flares, and I'm making brackets now to install a pair of Porche black leather seats. Any good ideas? I'm keeping the TTB front until it has to be replaced and if it lasts long enough I'll put a locker in it. Check out this killer 'under-frame, down the side, over hill and dale' exhaust he left me with! Rust anyone? Yep, this is gonna be fun!

Hey
Dude, Nice potential!. I LOVE step sides. Check mine out..6" lift, 35's, 4.10's, 9" rear, 351W, C6 and still my TTB holding up good!. Oh yeah, she's an 82. Keep working on her, it will be worth it. You gonna do a full resto or just get it road worthy and off-road it?.

Hey
Man I've got plenty of room with the 6"!. I've never had it rub even maxed out in flex and I've actually gotten this thing airbourne and landed smoothly and the tires never even came close to the metal. I've got a friend who has a 6" and trimmed about 1.5" off his front fenders and he runs 38"s. Its got more room than it appears in the pictures. I could run 36"s just the way the truck sits now. Yeah, my truck is not a show truck, but I keep good care of her, but she gets used often off-road and for hauling my ATV around. Its reliable and dependable, good off-road, and drives down the road great. Its exactly how I wanted it. Sometimes I wish it wasn't in such good shape becausem theres some hardcore trails I'd like to tackle, but everyone who goes in these trails doesn't come out the same, I don't mind scratches, but fenders bashed in or tore off arn't what I want for this particular truck. I have an old beeter Jeep I use for that terrain. I like the short bed F150's cuz the wheel base is short like the bronco's but you've got a bed on the rear for carrying ATV's, wood, trash etc etc. Anyway, keep up the work and keep us updated, I like watching another step side coming up.

I think the dist. goes on the higher port on the front of the carb. It's the timed vacuum, if I'm not mistaken. Edelbrock also recommends that you use the front large port for PCV and the rear for the power brakes if you have them. That truck is gonna be a tone of work but if you have the finances for it, it'll be a fun one! Good Luck!

81Ford_ I'm sorry bud I really can't be of much help right now, I haven't worked on a gas motor in a while and you probably don't want to recreate anything you see on this truck right now. My dad is a king of backyard engineering and this truck was an experimental test bed for a long time! It's even more work than it looks because all wireing and underhood hoses and anything else that he 'fixed' will have to be redone correctly. You can't see in the pic but the power steering pump has a 3/4" socket for a bracket spacer and there are all sorts of wires that go nowhere. That's a good looking truck you've got there, good luck with it. About the rusty rims though, guys the rust has gone through the chrome, I can get the rust off but then it's just rusty metal underneath.
